천국과 지옥 사이 균형에 의해 사람은 자유 안에 있다

사람과 결합되어 있는 영들에 대해서 몇 가지 더 얘기하겠다. 한 공동체 전체가 그 공동체에서 파견한 한 영을 통해 장소에 구애됨 없이 다른 공동체나 개인과 교통할 수 있다. 이런 영을 다수의 대리자라고 부른다. 천국 공동체들과 지옥 공동체들이 사람과 결합하는 것도 같은 원리다. 즉 사람과 결합해 있는 중간 영계의 영을 통해서 이루어지는 것이다. 이에 대해서도 뒤에 나오는 ‘천국의 비밀’(Arcana Coelestia) 인용문을 참고하기 바란다. Something more must be said about the spirits that are joined with man. An entire society can have communication with another society, or with an individual wherever he is; by means of a spirit sent forth from the society; this spirit is called the subject of the many. The same is true of man’s conjunction with societies in heaven, and with societies in hell, by means of spirits from the world of spirits that are joined with man.
