주께서 지옥을 다스리신다

The Lord Rules the Hells

그것이 천국과 지옥 간의 균형이다. 중간 영계에 있는 사람들은 그 균형 안에 있다. 그곳이 천국과 지옥 중간 지점에 있기 때문이다. 같은 근원에서 이 세상의 모든 사람도 같은 균형 안에 보존된다. 주께서 이 세상 사람들을 중간 영계의 영들을 통해서 다스리시기 때문이다. 이에 대해서는 앞으로 그 해당 가름에서 다룰 것이다. 주께서 천국과 지옥을 모두 다스리시고 양쪽을 조절하지 않으시면, 그런 균형은 있을 수 없다. 그렇게 하지 않으시면, 악에서 비롯된 허위가 우세해지고, 천사들보다 변질되기 쉬운 천국 외곽 지역의 단순히 선한 영들을 오염시킬 것이며, 그렇게 되면 균형은 깨어지고, 따라서 사람의 자유도 말살될 것이다. Such, then, is the equilibrium between heaven and hell. Those who are in the world of spirits are in that equilibrium, for the world of spirits is midway between heaven and hell. From the same source all men in the world are kept in a like equilibrium, since men in the world are ruled by the Lord by means of spirits in the world of spirits, as will be shown hereafter in its own chapter. No such equilibrium would be possible unless the Lord ruled both heaven and hell and regulated both sides. Otherwise falsities from evil would preponderate, and would affect the simple good who are in the outmost regions of heaven, and who can be more easily perverted than the angels themselves; and thereby equilibrium would perish, and with it freedom in men.
