여기에 한 가지 기억할 만한 사실을 덧붙인다. 이 교육 장소들에서 천국에 이르는, 새로 도착한 천사들이 따라가는 길들에 관한 사실이다. 길은 여덟 갈래가 있다. 각 교육 장소에서 두 길씩, 하나는 동쪽으로, 하나는 서쪽으로 올라간다. 주의 천적 나라에 들어가는 사람들은 동쪽 길로, 영적 나라에 들어가는 사람들은 서쪽 길로 간다. 주의 천적 나라로 가는 네 길은 올리브 나무와 다양한 과실수로 아름답게 꾸며져 있는 듯 보인다. 주의 영적 나라로 가는 길들은 포도나무와 월계수로 꾸며져 있는 듯 보인다. 그것은 상응에 의한 것이다. 포도나무와 월계수는 진리에 대한 애정과 그 쓰임새들에 상응하고, 올리브와 열매들은 선에 대한 애정과 그 쓰임새들에 상응하기 때문이다. To this I will add a memorable fact respecting the ways that lead from these places to heaven, by which the newly arrived angels are introduced. There are eight ways, two from each place of instruction, one going up in an eastern direction, the other toward the west. Those that enter the Lord’s celestial kingdom are introduced by the eastern way, while those that enter the spiritual kingdom are introduced by the western way. The four ways that lead to the Lord’s celestial kingdom appear adorned with olive trees and fruit trees of various kinds; but those that lead to the Lord’s spiritual kingdom appear adorned with vines and laurels. This is from correspondence, because vines and laurels correspond to affection for truth and its uses, while olives and fruits correspond to affection for good and its uses.
