사후 사람은 생전 살았던 삶과 같다

Man After Death Is Such as His Life Had Been in the World

기독교인은 누구나 각 사람의 삶이 죽은 뒤에 그를 기다리고 있다는 것을 말씀에서 읽어 알고 있다. 여러 성경 구절에 사람은 각자 행하고 일한 대로 심판받고 상을 받는다고 쓰여 있기 때문이다. 또 사람이 선함과 참된 진리를 바탕으로 생각한다면, 선하게 산 사람은 천국에 가고, 악하게 산 사람은 지옥에 간다는 것을 누구나 알 수밖에 없는 것이다. 그러나 악한 사람은 죽은 뒤의 상태가 이 세상 삶에 달려 있다는 것을 믿으려 하지 않는다. 이런 생각은 건강이 나쁠 때, 특히 더하다. 그는 천국은 사람의 삶이 어떠했건, 순전히 자비로 모두에게 주어진다고 생각하며, 천국은 그가 생활과 동떨어진 것으로 만든 그의 믿음에 의해 얻는 것이라고 생각한다. Every Christian knows from the Word that one’s own life awaits him after death; for it is there said in many passages that man will be judged and rewarded according to his deeds and works; and no one who thinks from good and from real truth can help seeing that he who lives well goes to heaven and that he who lives wickedly goes to hell. But the evil man is unwilling to believe that his state after death is according to his life in the world; he thinks, especially when he is sick, that heaven is granted to everyone out of pure mercy, whatever his life may have been, and that this is done in accordance with his faith, which he separates from life.
