천국의 광대함

The Immensity of Heaven

어떤 이들은 성경 말씀을 글자 그대로 받아들여 천국이 광대하지 않고, 좁을 것이라고 생각한다. 예를 들면, 천국에는 가난한 사람만 갈 수 있다. 선택받은 사람만 간다. 교회에 소속된 사람만 가고, 교인이 아닌 사람은 가지 못한다. 주님의 중재를 받아야만 갈 수 있다. 또는 천국이 가득 차면, 문을 닫는데 그 시기가 예정되어 있다 등의 말을 한다. 그러나 그런 사람들은 천국이 결코 문을 닫지 않으며, 예정된 기간도 정해진 숫자도 없다는 사실을 모르는 것이다. ‘선택된 자’는 선함과 진리 안에 산 사람들을 말하고,주254 ‘가난한 자’는 선과 진리에 대해 알지는 못하지만, 알고 싶어 하는 사람들을 말한다. 이들은 그 갈망 때문에 ‘굶주린 자’로도 상징된다.주255 말씀을 잘못 이해하여 천국을 좁은 곳이라고 생각하는 사람들은 천국을 모든 사람이 다 모이는 단 하나의 장소라고 생각한다(41–50항). 그러나 사실은 천국은 무수한 사회공동체로 구성되어 있다. 게다가 그런 사람들은 자비에 의해 천국에 들어가고 받아들여진다고 생각한다. 그들은 주께서 그분을 받아들이는 모든 사람을 자비로 인도하신다는 것과, 그분을 받아들인다는 것은 신적 질서의 법칙에 따라, 즉 사랑과 신앙의 교훈에 따라 사는 것임을 모르고 있다. 또 그들은 주께서 사람을 그 유아기부터 이 세상 삶을 마칠 때까지, 그리고 영원토록 인도하시는 것이 자비의 진정한 의미임을 모르고 있다. 그들이 알아야 할 것은, 모든 사람은 천국에 가기 위해 태어난다는 것, 이 세상에서 천국을 자기 마음 안에 받아들인 사람이 천국에 들어간다는 것, 천국을 받아들이지 않은 사람은 천국에 들어갈 수 없다는 사실이다. That heaven is not immense, but is of limited extent, is a conclusion that some have derived from certain passages in the Word understood according to the sense of its letter; for example, where it is said that only the poor are received into heaven, or only the elect, or only those within the church, and not those outside of it, or only those for whom the Lord intercedes; that heaven is closed when it is filled, and that this time is predetermined. But such are unaware that heaven is never closed, and that there is no time predetermined, or any limit of number; and that those are called the “elect” who are in a life of good and truth;254 and those are called “poor” who are lacking in knowledges of good and truth and yet desire them; and such from that desire are also called hungry.255 Those that have conceived an idea of the small extent of heaven from the Word not understood believe it to be in one place, where all are gathered together; when, in fact, heaven consists of innumerable societies (see above, n. 41–50). Such also have no other idea than that heaven is granted to everyone from mercy apart from means, and thus that there is admission and reception from mere favor; and they fail to understand that the Lord from mercy leads everyone who accepts him, and that he accepts him who lives in accordance with the laws of divine order, which are the precepts of love and of faith, and that the mercy that is meant is to be thus led by the Lord from infancy to the last period of life in the world and afterwards to eternity. Let them know, therefore, that every man is born for heaven, and that he is received that receives heaven in himself in the world, and he that does not receive it is shut out.

 

 

주254. 선택된 자들은 선과 진리의 삶 가운데 있는 사람들이다 (AC.3755, 3900). Those are the elect who are in a life of good and truth (n. 3755, 3900). 선택되어 천국에 받아들여지는 건, 용어를 잘못 이해하여 자비로 되는 건 줄 아는데, 그게 아니라 삶으로 되는 것이다 (AC.5057, 5058). Election and reception into heaven are not from mercy, as that term is understood, but are in accordance with the life (n. 5057, 5058). 시스템을 떠난 주님의 자비라는 건 없다. 오히려 시스템, 즉 주님의 계명대로 사는 삶을 통해서만 가능하다. 우리가 이 세상에서 그런 삶을 살 때, 주님의 자비는 우리를 끊임없이 인도하셔서 영원에 이르게 하신다 (AC.8700, 10659). There is no mercy of the Lord apart from means, but only through means, that is, to those that live in accordance with His precepts; such the Lord from His mercy leads continually in the world, and afterwards to eternity (n. 8700, 10659).

 

주255. 말씀에서 ‘가난한 자’라는 사람들은 영적으로 가난한 사람들, 즉 진리를 모르지만 무척 배우고 싶어 하는 사람들을 말한다 (AC.9209, 9253, 10227). By the “poor,” in the Word, those are meant who are spiritually poor, that is, who are ignorant of truth and yet wish to be taught (n. 9209, 9253, 10227). 그런 사람들을 굶주린 자, 목마른 자라고도 하는데, 이들은 선과 진리에 관한 지식을 간절히 원하는 사람들이다. 이 지식을 통해서 교회로, 그리고 천국으로 인도될 수 있기 때문이다 (AC.4958, 10227). Such are said to hunger and thirst, which is to desire knowledges of good and of truth, by which there is introduction into the church and into heaven (n. 4958, 10227).
