천국의 기쁨과 행복

악하지 않은 어떤 영들이 잠든 것 같은 휴면 상태에 들어 그 내면이 천국으로 올라간 적이 있었다. 영들의 내면이 열리기 전에 천국에 데려가 그곳의 행복에 대해 알게 하는 일이 있기 때문이다. 내가 본 영들은 반 시간 정도 휴면 상태에 들었다가 깨어나 이전의 외적 상태로 돌아온 후, 거기서 본 것을 기억할 수 있었다. 그들은 천국에서 천사들과 함께 있었으며, 경이로운 많은 것을 보고 느꼈는데, 그것이 전부 금은보석으로 된 듯이 찬란했고 정교했으며 엄청나게 다양했다고 말했다. 또 그들은 천사들이 그런 외적인 것 자체에는 즐거움을 두지 않고 그것에 상응하는 것, 즉 거룩하고 형용할 수 없는 지혜에 속한 무한한 것들에서 즐거움을 느꼈으며, 그런 것이 천사들의 기쁨이더라고 말했다. 그들은 또 그 밖에 그들이 본 많은 것도 사람의 언어로는 그 만분의 일도 표현할 수 없고, 한다고 해도 물질적 개념이 되고 말 것이라고 했다. Certain spirits, not evil, sinking into a quiescence like sleep, were taken up into heaven in respect to the interiors of their minds; for before their interiors are opened spirits can be taken up into heaven and be taught about the happiness of those there. I saw them in the quiescent state for about half an hour, and afterwards they relapsed into their exteriors in which they were before, and also into a recollection of what they had seen. They said that they had been among the angels in heaven, and had there seen and perceived amazing things, all of which were resplendent as if made of gold, silver, and precious stones, in exquisite forms and in wonderful variety; also that angels are not delighted with the outward things themselves, but with the things they represented, which were Divine, ineffable, and of infinite wisdom, and that these were their joy; with innumerable other things that could not be described in human language even as to a ten-thousandth part, or fall into ideas which partake of anything material.
