천국의 지혜로운 사람과 단순한 사람

The Wise and the Simple in Heaven

가짜 지성과 지혜는 신을 인정하지 않는 모든 지성과 지혜다. 신을 인정하지 않고, 신의 자리에 자연을 놓아둔 사람들은 아무리 그들의 학문과 지식으로 세상에서 높이 평가된다 해도 모두 육체의 감각을 토대로 생각하고, 완전히 감각적 차원에 머물기 때문이다.주229 그들의 학문은 그들 눈에 보이는 이 세상의 사물을 넘어서까지 높아지지는 않는다. 그들은 그 학식을 기억에 담아 두고, 거의 물질적 차원에서만 고찰한다. 그러나 그 똑같은 지식은 진정한 지성을 지닌 사람들의 사고력을 형성하는 데도 쓰이는 것이다. 여기서 ‘학문’이란 물리학, 천문학, 화학, 기계학, 기하학, 해부학, 심리학, 철학, 사학, 문학사, 비평, 언어 등의 다양한 경험지식을 의미한다. False intelligence and wisdom is all intelligence and wisdom that is separated from the acknowledgment of the Divine; for all such as do not acknowledge the Divine, but acknowledge nature in the place of the Divine, think from the bodily-sensual, and are merely sensual, however highly they may be esteemed in the world for their accomplishments and learning.229 For their learning does not ascend beyond such things as appear before their eyes in the world; these they hold in the memory and look at them in an almost material way, although the same knowledges serve the truly intelligent in forming their understanding. By sciences the various kinds of experimental knowledge are meant, such as physics, astronomy, chemistry, mechanics, geometry, anatomy, psychology, philosophy, the history of kingdoms and of the literary world, criticism, and languages.

 

[2] 신을 부인하는 성직자는 겉 사람에 속한 감각적 차원 이상으로 생각을 높이지 못하는 성직자를 말한다. 그들은 말씀의 내용을 다른 지식과 똑같이 취급할 뿐, 깨우쳐진 합리적 정신에 의한 사고나 직관의 대상으로 삼지 않는다. 이것은 그들의 내면이 닫혀버렸고, 그에 따라 내면에 연접해 있는 외면까지 닫혀있기 때문이다. 이것이 닫힌 이유는 그들이 천국을 등지고 돌아섰으며, 천국을 바라볼 수 있는 기능, 즉 앞에서 말한 사람 마음의 내면을 거꾸로 뒤집어 놓았기 때문이다. 그 결과 그들은 어떤 선이나 진리도 식별할 능력이 없고, 그들에게 있어 선과 진리는 짙은 어둠 속에, 악과 허위는 밝은 빛 속에 있다. The clergy who deny the Divine do not raise their thoughts above the sensual things of the external man; and regard the things of the Word in the same way as others regard the sciences, not making them matters of thought or of any intuition by an enlightened rational mind; and for the reason that their interiors are closed up, together with those exteriors that are nearest to their interiors. These are closed up because they have turned themselves away from heaven, and have retroverted those faculties that were capable of looking heavenward, which are, as has been said above, the interiors of the human mind. For this reason they are incapable of seeing anything true or good, this being to them in thick darkness, while whatever is false and evil is in light.

 

[3] 감각적 차원에만 머무는 사람도 논리적 사고를 할 수 있다. 그들 중 일부는 누구보다도 영리하고 예리하게 추론한다. 그러나 그들은 자기 지식으로 확신한 감각적 차원의 허위를 바탕으로 추론하는 것이다. 그들이 이렇게 논리적 사고를 할 수 있기 때문에, 그들은 스스로를 남보다 지혜롭다고 여긴다.주230 그들의 사고를 애정으로 점화하는 불은 자기 사랑과 세상 사랑의 불이다. 이런 사람들이 가짜 지성과 지혜의 소유자들이며, 마태복음의 주님 말씀도 이들을 가리키신 것이다. And yet sensual men can reason, some of them more cunningly and keenly than anyone else; but they reason from the fallacies of the senses confirmed by their knowledges; and because they are able to reason in this way they believe themselves to be wiser than others.230 The fire that kindles with affection their reasonings is the fire of the love of self and the world. Such are those who are in false intelligence and wisdom, and who are meant by the Lord in Matthew:

 

13그러므로 내가 그들에게 비유로 말하는 것은 그들이 보아도 보지 못하며 들어도 듣지 못하며 깨닫지 못함이니라 14이사야의 예언이 그들에게 이루어졌으니 일렀으되 너희가 듣기는 들어도 깨닫지 못할 것이요 보기는 보아도 알지 못하리라 15이 백성들의 마음이 완악하여져서 그 귀는 듣기에 둔하고 눈은 감았으니 이는 눈으로 보고 귀로 듣고 마음으로 깨달아 돌이켜 내게 고침을 받을까 두려워함이라 하였느니라 (마13:13-15) Seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand (Matt. 13:13–15).

 

25그 때에 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 천지의 주재이신 아버지여 이것을 지혜롭고 슬기 있는 자들에게는 숨기시고 어린아이들에게는 나타내심을 감사하나이다 26옳소이다 이렇게 된 것이 아버지의 뜻이니이다 (마11:25, 26) These things are hid from the intelligent and wise, and revealed unto babes (Matt. 11:25, 26).

Such a man thinks in things outermost and not interiorly in himself (n. 5089, 5094, 6564, 7693). 그의 내면은 신적 진리에 관해서는 전혀 못 볼 정도로 닫혀 있다 (AC.6564, 6844, 6845). His interiors are so closed up that he sees nothing of Divine truth (n. 6564, 6844, 6845). 한마디로, 그는 완전한 자연적 빛 안에 있고, 따라서 천국 빛으로 말미암는 그 어떤 것도 지각하지 못한다 (AC.6201, 6310, 6564, 6598, 6612, 6614, 6622, 6624, 6844, 6845). In a word, he is in gross natural light and thus perceives nothing that is from the light of heaven (n. 6201, 6310, 6564, 6598, 6612, 6614, 6622, 6624, 6844, 6845). 그러므로 그는 내적으로는 천국과 교회에 관한 모든 것에 반대편에 있다 (AC.6201, 6310, 6844, 6845, 6948, 6949). Therefore he is inwardly opposed to all things pertaining to heaven and the church (n. 6201, 6310, 6844, 6845, 6948, 6949). 교회의 진리들에 대해 대적하기로 자기 자신을 컨펌한 학자들은 감각의 사람들이다(AC.6316).
