천국의 지혜로운 사람과 단순한 사람

The Wise and the Simple in Heaven

그런 사람들이 사후에 영계에 들어오면 그렇게 변한다는 것은 다음 한 가지 사실로도 알 수 있다. 자연적 기억 속에 들어 있는 모든 것과, 육체의 감각에 직결된 것(여기에는 위에서 언급한 학문적 지식도 포함된다)은 모두 사후에 휴면 상태에 들어간다. 그리고 오직 거기서 이끌어 낸 합리적 원리들만 사고와 언어에 사용된다. 사람은 그의 자연적 기억 전체를 사후에도 그대로 지니고 있는데, 그 내용은 더 이상 그가 살펴볼 수 없으며, 살아있을 때처럼 의식되지도 않는다. 사람이 어떤 것도 그 기억에서 꺼내 영적 빛으로 비춰볼 수 없는 것은, 그 내용물이 영적 빛의 대상이 되지 못하기 때문이다. 그러나 이 세상에 살 때, 지식을 통해 획득한 합리성과 사고력은 영계의 빛에 합당하다. 따라서 사람의 영이 이 세상에서 지식과 학문을 통해 합리적이 된 정도만큼 그는 육체를 벗은 후에도 합리적이다. 그때 사람은 영이며, 육신을 입고 있을 때 생각을 한 주체는 그 영이기 때문이다.주231 That these are such in the spiritual world when they come into it after death may be inferred from this alone, that all things that are in the natural memory and are in immediate conjunction with the things of bodily sense (which is true of such knowledges as are mentioned above) then become quiescent; and only such rational principles as are drawn from these then serve for thought and speech. For man carries with him his entire natural memory, but its contents are not then under his view, and do not come into his thought as when he lived in the world. He can take nothing from that memory and bring it forth into spiritual light because its contents are not objects of that light. But those things of the reason and understanding that man has acquired from knowledges while living in the body are in accord with the light of the spiritual world; consequently so far as the spirit of man has been made rational in the world through knowledge and science it is to the same extent rational after being loosed from the body; for man is then a spirit, and it is the spirit that thinks in the body.231

 

 

주231. 사람이 세상에 있으면서 습득한 자연적 기억에 속한 지식들 (AC.5212, 9922) Knowledges belong to the natural memory that man has while he is in the body (n. 5212, 9922). 사람은 자연적 기억 전체를 사후 지니고 간다(AC.2475). 경험에 의하면 (AC.2481–2486) Man carries with him after death his whole natural memory (n. 2475) from experience (n. 2481–2486). 그러나 그는 몇 가지 이유로, 그 기억 중 일부를 세상에 있을 때처럼 꺼낼 수 없다 (AC.2476, 2477, 2479). But he is not able, as he was in the world, to draw anything out of that memory, for several reasons (n. 2476, 2477, 2479).
