천국의 어린이들

이상의 내용으로 천국의 어린이 교육은 진리의 이해와 선에서 나오는 지혜를 통해 아이들을 천사의 삶으로, 곧 그 속에 순진함이 담긴 주님 사랑과 서로 사랑 안으로 인도하는 것임을 알 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 이 세상 어린이 교육은 얼마나 그와 다른지 다음의 예로 알 수 있을 것이다. 큰 도시의 거리에서 나는 어린 소년들이 싸우는 것을 본 적이 있다. 사람들이 그 주위에 몰려들어 아주 재미있게 구경하고 있었다. 내가 들으니 그 아이들은 자기 부모들이 선동하여 싸우게 되었다는 것이다. 내 눈을 통해 이 장면을 본 선한 영들과 천사들은 너무나 경악했으며, 나는 그들의 공포를 느낄 수 있었다. 그들은 특히 부모들이 이런 것을 자녀들에게 시킨다는 사실에 놀라면서, 이렇게 하면 부모들은 주께서 아이들에게 심어주신 모든 서로 사랑과 모든 순진함을 초기부터 말살하는 것이고, 아이들을 미움과 보복으로 인도하는 것이며, 따라서 부모 자신의 손으로 아이들이 천국에 가지 못하게 막아버리는 것이라고 말했다. 천국은 서로 사랑밖에 없는 곳이기 때문이다. 그러므로 자녀의 행복을 바라는 부모들은 이것을 유념해야 하겠다. From what has been said it can be seen what child education is in heaven, namely, that it is leading them by means of an understanding of truth and the wisdom of good into the angelic life, which is love to the Lord and mutual love, in which is innocence. But how different in many cases is the education of children on the earth can be seen from this example. I was in the street of a large city, and saw little boys fighting with each other; a crowd flocked around and looked on with much pleasure; and I was told that little boys are incited to such fights by their own parents. Good spirits and angels who saw this through my eyes so revolted at it that I felt their horror; and especially that parents should incite their children to such things, saying that in this way parents extinguish in the earliest age all the mutual love and all the innocence that children have from the Lord, and initiate them into the spirit of hatred and revenge; consequently by their own endeavors they shut their children out of heaven, where there is nothing but mutual love. Let parents therefore who wish well to their children beware of such things.
