천국과 지옥은 인류로 말미암는다

Heaven and Hell Are from the Human Race

기독교계에서는 천국과 지옥이 인류로 구성되어 있음을 전혀 모르고 있다. 처음부터 천사는 천사로 창조되어 천국을 이루고 있었다고, 마귀 또는 사탄도 빛의 천사였다가 반역하여 그 일당과 함께 내쫓겨 지옥을 형성했다고들 믿기 때문이다. 기독교계에서 그렇게 믿고 있다는 것에 천사들은 무척 놀라고, 천국이야말로 교회 교리의 근본임에도 불구하고 교회에서 천국에 대해 전혀 모르고 있다는 데 더욱 경악한다. 그러나 또한 그런 무지가 만연하고 있기 때문에, 지금 주님의 뜻에 따라 천국과 지옥에 대한 많은 사실이 기독교 사회의 사람들에게 밝혀지게 되었고, 기독교가 종말을 맞아 어둠이 나날이 증가하고 있는데, 이 계시로 인해 그 어둠이 가능한 한 많이 걷히게 되었다고 천사들은 진심으로 기뻐한다. In the Christian world it is wholly unknown that heaven and hell are from the human race, for it is believed that in the beginning angels were created and heaven was thus formed; also that the devil or satan was an angel of light, but having rebelled he was cast down with his crew, and thus hell was formed. The angels never cease to wonder at such a belief in the Christian world, and still more that nothing is really known about heaven, when in fact that is the primary principle of all doctrine in the church. But since such ignorance prevails they rejoice in heart that it has pleased the Lord to reveal to mankind at this time many things about heaven and about hell, thereby dispelling as far as possible the darkness that has been daily increasing because the church has come to its end.

 

[2] 그래서 천사들은 내가 그들의 다음 말을 증언해 주기를 원했다. ‘천국 전체에 처음부터 천사로 창조된 천사는 단 한 명도 없다. 지옥에도 빛의 천사로 창조되었다가 쫓겨난 악마는 없다. 천국이나 지옥이나 전부 인류가 가서 이룬다. 천국은 세상에서 천국의 사랑과 신앙으로 산 사람들로, 지옥은 지옥적 사랑과 신조로 산 사람들로 이루어져 있다.’ 또 마귀나 사탄은 지옥을 통칭하는 말이다. 마귀는 악마들이 모여 사는 뒤쪽 지옥을, 사탄은 악령들이 모여 사는 앞쪽 지옥을 말한다.주213 각 지옥의 속성에 대해서는 뒤에서 다룰 것이다. They wish for this reason that I should declare from their lips that in the entire heaven there is not a single angel who was created such from the beginning, nor in hell any devil who was created an angel of light and cast down; but that all, both in heaven and in hell, are from the human race; in heaven those who lived in the world in heavenly love and belief, in hell those who lived in infernal love and belief, also that it is hell taken as a whole that is called the devil and satan—the name devil being given to the hell that is behind, where those are that are called evil genii, and the name satan being given to the hell that is in front, where those are that are called evil spirits.213 The character of these hells will be described in the following pages.

 

[3] 천사들은 이렇게 말했다. ‘기독교 사회가 천국과 지옥의 구성에 대해 잘못 믿는 것은, 해당 구절들을 오로지 글자 그대로 이해했을 뿐, 말씀에서 이끌어 낸 참된 교리로 깨우침이나 설명을 받지 못했기 때문이다. 말씀의 문자 상의 의미는 참된 교리로 설명되지 않으면, 사람의 마음을 오도하고, 이것이 무지한 견해와 이설과 오류를 낳는 것이다.’주214 The angels said that the Christian world had gathered such a belief about those in heaven and those in hell from some passages in the Word understood according to the mere sense of the letter not illustrated and explained by genuine doctrine from the Word; yet the sense of the letter of the Word until illuminated by genuine doctrine, draws the mind in different directions, and this begets ignorance, heresies, and errors.214

True doctrine is a lamp to those who read the Word (n. 10400). 진정한 교리는 반드시 주님에 의해 빛을 받은 사람들로 말미암아야 한다 (AC.2510, 2516, 2519, 9424, 10105). Genuine doctrine must be from those who are enlightened by the Lord (n. 2510, 2516, 2519, 9424, 10105). 교리 없이 단지 겉 글자의 뜻 가운데만 있는 사람들은 신적 진리에 대해 들어도 전혀 이해할 수 없게 된다 (AC.9409, 9410, 10582). Those who are in the sense of the letter without doctrine come into no understanding of Divine truths (n. 9409, 9410, 10582). 그리고 많은 오류 가운데로 어지러이 나아가게 된다 (AC.10431). And they are led away into many errors (n. 10431). 말씀에 기원한 교회 교리로 가르침과 배움을 받은 사람들과 그저 겉 글자의 뜻으로만 가르침과 배움을 받은 사람들 간의 차이 (AC.9025) The difference between those who teach and learn from the doctrine of the church derived from the Word and those who teach and learn from the sense of the letter alone (n. 9025).
