천국과 사람 간 말씀에 의한 결합

Conjunction of Heaven with Man By Means of the Word

다음은 내가 천국에서 들은 사실이다. 태고시대 사람들은 그 내면이 천국을 향하고 있었기 때문에, 직접 계시를 받았었고, 그 계시에 의해 당시 인류는 주님과 합일되어 있었다. 그러나 그 시대가 지난 후에는 그런 직접 계시가 끊어졌고, 상응에 의한 간접 계시가 주어졌다. 그에 따라 그들의 하나님 예배도 상응으로 이루어졌고, 그런 이유로 이때의 교회를 표상교회라고 한다. 그때는 사람들이 상응이 무엇이고, 표상이 무엇인지 알고 있었고, 지상의 모든 것이 천국과 교회의 영적인 것에 상응한다는 사실을 알고 있었기 때문이다. 따라서 예배의 외형적인 것을 구성하는 자연적 사물들은 그들이 영적으로 생각하는 데 있어서, 즉 천사들과 함께 생각하는 데 있어서 매체 역할을 했다. 사람들이 이 상응과 표상에 대한 지식을 더 이상 기억하지 못하게 되자 말씀이 기록되었다. 그 안에는 모든 낱말과 뜻이 상응으로 되어 있고, 천사들의 차원인 영적, 즉 내적 의미가 담겨져 있다. 그렇기 때문에 사람이 말씀을 읽으면서 글자의 뜻인 외적 의미로 이해할 때, 천사들은 그것을 내적 의미로 이해한다. 천사의 생각은 모두 영적인 반면, 사람의 생각은 모두 자연적이기 때문이다. 이 두 종류의 생각은 서로 다르게 나타나지만, 상응으로 인해 하나가 된다. 이렇듯 사람이 천국과의 연결을 스스로 끊어버린 후, 주께서는 사람이 천국과 결합되도록 말씀이라는 중간 매체를 마련하신 것이다. I have been told from heaven that the most ancient people, because their interiors were turned heavenwards, had direct revelation, and by this means there was at that time a conjunction of the Lord with the human race. After their times, however, there was no such direct revelation, but there was a mediate revelation by means of correspondences, inasmuch as all their Divine worship then consisted of correspondences, and for this reason the churches of that time were called representative churches. For it was then known what correspondence is and what representation is, and that all things on the earth correspond to spiritual things in heaven and in the church, or what is the same, represent them; and therefore the natural things that constituted the externals of their worship served them as mediums for thinking spiritually, that is, thinking with the angels. When the knowledge of correspondences and representations had been blotted out of remembrance a Word was written, in which all the words and their meanings are correspondences, and thus contain a spiritual or internal sense, in which are the angels; and in consequence, when a man reads the Word and perceives it according to the sense of the letter or the outer sense, the angels perceive it according to the internal or spiritual sense; for all the thought of angels is spiritual while the thought of man is natural. These two kinds of thought appear diverse; nevertheless they are one because they correspond. Thus it was that when man had separated himself from heaven and had severed the bond, the Lord provided a medium of conjunction of heaven with man by means of the Word.
