천국과 인류의 결합

The Conjunction of Heaven with the Human Race

모든 선이 주께로부터 오고, 사람에게서 난 선은 하나도 없다는 것, 따라서 아무도 어떤 선이든 자기에게 근원을 돌리면 안 된다는 것은 교회 내에 잘 알려져 있다. 또 악이 악마에게서 온다는 것도 잘 알려져 있다. 그래서 교회의 가르침에 따라 말하는 사람은, 행동이 선하고, 경건한 말과 설교를 하는 사람을 보고 주의 인도를 받고 있다고 한다. 반면 행동이 옳지 않고, 말이 불경한 사람을 보고는 그 반대라고 말한다. 이것은 사람이 천국과 지옥에 결합돼 있지 않으면 불가능한 일이며, 또 그 결합은 사람의 의지와 사고력에의 결합이 아니면 안 된다. 사람은 의지와 사고력에 의해 몸으로 행동하고, 입으로 말하는 것이기 때문이다. 이제 이 결합이 어떤 것인지 설명하겠다. It is well known in the church that all good is from God, and that nothing of good is from man, consequently that no one ought to ascribe any good to himself as his own. It is also well known that evil is from the devil. Therefore those who speak from the doctrine of the church say of those who behave well, and of those who speak and preach piously, that they are led by God; but the opposite of those who do not behave well and who speak impiously. For this to be true man must have conjunction with heaven and with hell; and this conjunction must be with man’s will and with his understanding; for it is from these that the body acts and the mouth speaks. What this conjunction is shall now be told.
