천국의 글

한번은 천국에서 작은 쪽지가 내게 전해졌었다 거기에는 히브리어가 몇 자 적혀 있었는데 그 각 글자에는 지혜의 비의(秘義, arcana)가 담겨 있다고 했다. 또 그 비의는 글자의 모든 굴절과 곡선마다에 들어 있으며, 글자의 발음에도 그렇게 들어 있다는 것이었다. 이 사실로 나는 다음의 주의 말씀이 무엇을 의미하는지 분명히 알게 되었다. A little paper was at one time sent to me from heaven, on which there were a few words only written in Hebrew letters, and I was told that every letter involved arcana of wisdom, and that these arcana were contained in the inflections and curvatures of the letters, and thus also in the sounds. This made clear to me what is signified by these words of the Lord:

 

진실로 너희에게 이르노니 천지가 없어지기 전에는 율법의 일점일획도 결코 없어지지 아니하고 다 이루리라 (마5:18) Verily I say unto you, until heaven and earth pass away, one iota or one tittle shall not pass away from the law (Matt. 5:18).

 

말씀이 그 일 획까지 신성하다는 것은 교회에 알려져 있다. 그러나 정확히 일 획의 어디에 신성이 있는지는 지금까지 알려지지 않았으므로 여기 밝힐 필요가 있겠다. 가장 내적인 천국의 글자는 많은 굴곡과 곡선의 형태로 되어 있다. 그 구부러지고 휘어진 모양은 천국의 형태와 일치한다. 이 형태를 통해서 천사들은 그들 지혜의 비의를 표현하고, 또 말로 표현할 수 없는 다른 많은 것을 나타낸다. 놀라운 것은, 천사들은 연습하거나 배우지 않고 이 글을 안다는 것이다. 말처럼 글도 그들 속에 심겨 있기 때문이다 (HH.236 참조). 그러므로 이 글은 천국의 글이다. 이것이 심겨 있는 이유는, 천사들의 모든 생각과 애정의 확산, 그에 따른 그들의 지성과 지혜의 소통이 천국의 형태에 따라 진행되기 때문이다 (HH.201). 같은 이유로, 그들의 글도 천국의 형태에 따라 흐르는 것이다. 나는 글자가 생기기 전, 지구상의 태고 시대 사람들에게는 이와 같은 글이 있었고, 그것이 히브리어 글자에 전해졌다는 것을 알게 되었다. 히브리어의 초기 글자들은 모두 곡선으로 되어 있었고, 현재와 같은 직선 획은 없었다. 이런 원리로 말씀의 일점일획에까지 천국의 신비가 담겨 있는 것이다. That the Word in every tittle of it is Divine is known in the church; but just where the Divine lies hid in every tittle has not been known heretofore, and therefore shall be told. In the inmost heaven the writing consists of various inflected and circumflected forms, and the inflections and circumflections are in accordance with the forms of heaven. By means of these angels express the arcana of their wisdom, and also many things that they are unable to express in spoken words; and what is wonderful, the angels know this writing without training or a teacher, it being implanted in them like their speech (see n. 236); therefore this writing is heavenly writing. It is implanted because all extension of thoughts and affections and consequent communication of intelligence and wisdom of the angels proceeds in accordance with the form of heaven (n. 201); and for the same reason their writing flows into that form. I have been told that the most ancient people on this earth, before letters were invented, had such writing; and that it was transferred into the letters of the Hebrew language, and these letters in ancient times were all inflected, and none of them, as at present, were bounded by straight lines. Thus it is that in the Word Divine things and arcana of heaven are contained even in its iotas, points, and tittles.
