성경 말씀을 받아 전한 선지자들에게 주께서 어떤 방법으로 말씀하셨는지도 나는 알게 되었다. 주는 선지자들에게는 고대인들에게처럼 내면 안으로 유입하는 방법으로 말씀하신 것이 아니고, 그들에게 영들을 보내셨다. 주님은 그 영들을 당신의 모습으로 가득 채우심으로써 말씀을 불어넣으셨고, 그들은 선지자들에게 그 말씀을 그대로 불러주었다. 그것은 유입(influx)이 아니라 구술(口述, dictation)이었다. 그 말씀들은 직접 주께로부터 나온 것이기 때문에, 한마디 한마디가 신성으로 채워져 있었고, 그 안에는 내적인 뜻이 담겨 있다. 그래서 천국의 천사들은 말씀을 천적이고 영적인 의미로 이해하고 사람은 자연적 의미로 이해한다. 이렇게 말씀을 통해서 주님은 천국과 세상을 결합시키시는 것이다. 또 나는 어떻게 영들이 주의 모습을 통해 주의 신성으로 가득 차게 되는가를 알게 되었다. 어떤 영이 주의 신성으로 가득 차면, 그 영은 자기가 주님이라고 생각하게 되고, 말할 때는 신성이 말하고 있다고 여긴다. 이런 현상은 그가 전할 말을 다 마칠 때까지 지속된다. 임무가 끝나면, 그는 자기가 영임을 느끼고 인식하며, 자기가 한 말은 자기에게서 나온 것이 아니고, 주님으로부터 온 것이라는 것을 알게 된다. 선지자들에게 말씀을 전한 영들의 상태도 이와 같았기 때문에, 그들은 ‘여호와께서 말씀하셨다’고 했으며, 심지어 자기들을 가리켜 여호와라 하기도 했다. 이는 성경의 선지서와 역사서 부분을 보면 알 수 있다. I have been told how the Lord spoke with the prophets through whom the Word was given. He did not speak with them as he did with the ancients, by an influx into their interiors, but through spirits who were sent to them, whom he filled with his look, and thus inspired with the words which they dictated to the prophets; so that it was not influx but dictation. And as the words came forth directly from the Lord, each one of them was filled with the Divine and contains within it an internal sense, which is such that the angels of heaven understand the words in a heavenly and spiritual sense, while men understand them in a natural sense. Thus has the Lord conjoined heaven and the world by means of the Word. How the Lord fills spirits with the Divine by his look has also been made clear. A spirit that has been filled by the Lord with the Divine does not know otherwise than that he is the Lord, and that it is the Divine that is speaking; and this continues until he has finished speaking. After that he perceives and acknowledges that he is a spirit, and that he spoke from the Lord and not from himself. Because this was the state of the spirits who spoke with the prophets they said that it was Jehovah that spoke; the spirits even called themselves Jehovah, as can be seen both from the prophetical and historical parts of the Word.
