그러나 오늘날에는 영들과 대화하는 것이 위험하기 때문에 거의 허락되지 않는다.주178 사람과 말을 하지 않으면 모르고 있지만, 말을 하게 되면 영들은 자기들이 사람과 같이 있다는 것을 알게 되고, 그러면 악한 영들은 사람을 극도로 증오하고, 그 몸과 영혼을 파괴하려고 하기 때문이다. 이런 일은 사람이 환상에 사로잡혀 사람의 자연성에 합당한 즐거움을 버리는 경우에 일어난다. 또 고립된 생활을 하는 사람도 때로 영들이 하는 말을 듣는데, 이것은 위험하지는 않다. 그러나 그 영들이 사람과 함께 있는 것을 자각하지 못하도록 주께서는 그들 사이에 간격을 두신다. 거의 모든 영들은 자기들이 살고 있는 세계 외에 또 다른 세계가 있다는 것을 모르고 있으므로, 다른 곳에 사람이 존재한다는 것도 모르고 있기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에, 사람은 영들의 말에 응대하지 못하게 되어 있다. 만일 응대하면 영들이 알아차리기 때문이다. 또 종교적인 주제를 놓고 너무 많이 생각하고, 그것을 스스로 내적으로 안다고 여길 정도로 골몰하는 사람도 영이 그들에게 말하는 것을 듣기 시작한다. 어떤 종교적 신념이든, 사람이 그것을 혼자서 골똘히 생각하기만 하고, 세상의 다양한 쓰임새에 적용하지 않으면, 사람 마음에 스며들어 붙박고, 그의 영혼 전체를 사로잡는다. 심지어는 영계로 들어가 그곳의 영들에게 작용하기까지 한다. 그러나 이런 사람들은 환영을 좇는 자거나 광신자들이다. 그들은 어떤 영의 말을 듣든지, 사실은 광신적인 영들인데도 성령이라고 믿는다. 이런 영들은 거짓을 진리라고 여기고, 자기들만 그렇게 믿는 게 아니라 자기들을 받아들이는 사람들까지 그렇게 믿게 만든다. 그러나 이런 영들은 다른 이들을 유혹하여 악에 빠뜨리고, 그들을 지배하기 시작했기 때문에 점차로 제거돼왔다. 광신적인 영들이 다른 영들과 구분되는 특징이 있다. 그들은 스스로를 성령이라 여기고, 자기들이 한 말이 신성하다고 믿는다. 사람이 그런 영들을 예배하며 공경하면, 그들은 그를 해치려고 하지 않는다. 나는 몇 번 그들과 얘기를 해보았다. 그때 그 영들이 그들의 신봉자에게 주입시킨 사악한 내용이 드러났다. 그들은 왼쪽을 향한 사막에 모여 산다. But at the present day to talk with spirits is rarely granted because it is dangerous;178 for then the spirits know, what otherwise they do not know, that they are with man; and evil spirits are such that they hold man in deadly hatred, and desire nothing so much as to destroy him both soul and body, and this they do in the case of those who have so indulged themselves in fantasies as to have separated from themselves the enjoyments proper to the natural man. Some also who lead a solitary life sometimes hear spirits talking with them, and without danger; but that the spirits with them may not know that they are with man they are at intervals removed by the Lord; for most spirits are not aware that there is any other world than that in which they live, and therefore are unaware that there are men anywhere else; and this is why man is not permitted to speak with them in return. If he did they would know. Again, those who meditate much on religious subjects, and are so intent upon them as to see them as it were inwardly within themselves, begin to hear spirits speaking with them; for religious persuasions, whatever they are, when man dwells upon them by himself and does not adapt them to the various things of use in the world, penetrate to the interiors and rest there, and occupy the whole spirit of the man, and even enter into the spiritual world and act upon the spirits there. But such persons are visionaries and enthusiasts; and whatever spirit they hear they believe to be the Holy Spirit, when, in fact, such spirits are enthusiastic spirits. Such spirits see falsities as truths, and so seeing them they induce not themselves only but also those they flow into to believe them. Such spirits, however, have been gradually removed, because they began to lure others into evil and to gain control over them. Enthusiastic spirits are distinguished from other spirits by their believing themselves to be the Holy Spirit, and believing what they say to be Divine. As man honors such spirits with Divine worship they do not attempt to harm him. I have sometimes talked with them, and the wicked things they infused into their worshipers were then disclosed. They dwell together toward the left, in a desert place.

Man is able to talk with spirits and angels; and the ancient people frequently talked with them (n. 67–69, 784, 1634, 1636, 7802). 어떤 지구들에서는 천사들과 영들이 사람 모양으로 나타나 그곳 거주민들과 대화한다. In some earths angels and spirits appear in human form and talk with the inhabitants (n. 10751, 10752). 그러나 오늘날 이 지구에서는 영들과 대화하는 건 위험하다. 사람이 참 신앙 안에 있고, 주님의 인도를 받지 않는 한 말이다. But on this earth at this day it is dangerous to talk with spirits, unless man is in true faith, and is led by the Lord (n. 784, 9438, 10751).
