천사의 말은 사람의 말과 마찬가지로 단어들로 나뉘어져 있다. 또 말은 소리로 되어 있어 발음되고 귀에 들린다. 왜냐하면, 천사도 사람처럼 입과 혀, 귀가 있고, 공기 속에 살고 있으므로 말소리가 그 안에서 전달되기 때문이다. 다만 그 공기는 천사들이 영적이기 때문에, 그에 적합한 영적 공기이다. 사람이 대기권 안에서 하듯 천사들은 그들의 공기 속에서 숨 쉬고, 그 숨으로 말을 한다.주171 Angelic speech, like human speech, is distinguished into words; it is also audibly uttered and heard; for angels, like men, have mouth, tongue, and ears, and an atmosphere in which the sound of their speech is articulated, although it is a spiritual atmosphere adapted to angels, who are spiritual. In their atmosphere angels breathe and utter words by means of their breath, as men do in their atmosphere.171

 

 

주171. 천국에도 호흡이 있다. 다만 그 호흡은 내적인 호흡이다. In the heavens there is respiration, but it is of an interior kind (n. 3884, 3845), 경험으로부터 from experience (n. 3884, 3885, 3891, 3893). 천국들에는 서로 상이한 호흡들이 있는데, 저마다의 상태에 따라 다양하다. There are differing respirations there, varying in accordance with their states (n. 1119, 3886, 3887, 3889, 3892, 3893). 악인들은 천국에서는 조금도 숨을 쉴 수가 없다. 만일 그들이 거길 가면 그들은 질식한다. The evil are wholly unable to breathe in heaven, and they are suffocated if they go there (n. 3894).
