천국 안의 다스림

Governments in Heaven

이상의 내용으로 천국의 위정자들이 어떤지 알 수 있을 것이다. 그들은 사랑과 지혜가 뛰어나다. 따라서 모든 사람의 선이 되는 것을 추구하며, 지혜로우므로 그 선을 실현할 방안을 알고 있다. 이런 위정자는 군림하거나 명령하지 않고, 그와 반대로 섬기고 봉사한다. 섬긴다는 것은 선을 사랑하여 사람들에게 선을 행하는 것이고, 봉사한다는 것은 선이 실행되도록 조처하는 것을 말한다. 또 그들은 스스로를 남보다 크다고 여기지 않으며, 오히려 작다고 생각한다. 그것은 그들이 사회와 이웃의 유익을 첫째로 생각하고, 자신의 유익을 가장 나중으로 여기기 때문이며, 무엇이든 첫째 자리에 있는 것은 크고, 가장 나중 것은 작기 때문이다. 그럼에도 위정자들에게는 명예와 영광이 있다. 그들은 사회의 중심부에 있으며, 다른 사람보다 지위가 높고, 화려한 관저에 산다. 이들은 이 영광과 명예를 자기 자신을 위해 받지 않고, 순종하기 위해 받아들인다. 천국의 모든 사람은 이 명예와 영광은 주님이 주시는 것임과, 따라서 순종함으로 받아야 한다는 것을 알고 있기 때문이다. 이것이 주께서 제자들에게 하신 다음 말씀의 의미이다. From all this it can be seen what the governors there are, namely, that they are such as are preeminent in love and wisdom, and therefore desire the good of all, and from wisdom know how to provide for the realization of that good. Such governors do not domineer or dictate, but they minister and serve (to serve meaning to do good to others from a love of the good, and to minister meaning to see to it that the good is done); nor do they make themselves greater than others, but less, for they put the good of society and of the neighbor in the first place, and put their own good last; and whatever is in the first place is greater and what is last is less. Nevertheless, the rulers have honor and glory; they dwell in the midst of the society, in higher position than the rest, and also in magnificent palaces; and this glory and honor they accept not for the sake of themselves but for the sake of obedience; for all there know that they have this honor and glory from the Lord, and on that account should be obeyed. This is what is meant by the Lord’s words to his disciples:

 

26너희 중에는 그렇지 않아야 하나니 너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고 27너희 중에 누구든지 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 너희의 종이 되어야 하리라 28인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라 (마20:26-28) Whosoever would become great among you let him be your minister; and whosoever would be first among you let him be your servant; as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister (Matt. 20:27, 28).

 

너희는 그렇지 않을지니 너희 중에 큰 자는 젊은 자와 같고 다스리는 자는 섬기는 자와 같을지니라 (눅22:26) He that is greatest among you let him be as the least, and he that is chief as he that doth minister (Luke 22:26).
