사후 사람의 첫 번째 상태

사람의 이 사후 첫 상태는 사람에 따라 며칠, 몇 달, 혹은 일 년간 지속된다. 그러나 일 년을 넘기는 사람은 드물다. 각 사람의 이 기간이 길고 짧은 것은 그의 내면과 외면이 얼마나 일치하는가에 달려 있다. 모든 사람의 외면과 내면은 하나가 되고, 서로 상응해야 하기 때문이다. 영계에서는 아무도 자기 생각과 의도와 다르게 말하고 행동하지 못하게 되어 있다. 거기서는 모든 사람이 자신의 애정의 형상, 즉 자신의 사랑의 모습이어야 한다. 그러므로 자기의 내면과 외면이 똑같아야 하는 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 영들의 외면이 드러난 후, 질서에 맞게 변함으로써 내면을 상응하는 바탕으로 쓰이게 되는 것이다. This first state of man after death continues with some for days, with some for months, and with some for a year; but seldom with anyone beyond a year; for a shorter or longer time with each one according to the agreement or disagreement of his interiors with his exteriors. For with everyone the exteriors and interiors must make one and correspond. In the spiritual world no one is permitted to think and will in one way and speak and act in another. Everyone there must be an image of his own affection or his own love, and therefore such as he is inwardly such he must be outwardly; and for this reason a spirit’s exteriors are first disclosed and reduced to order that they may serve the interiors as a corresponding plane.
