사후 사람은 생전 살았던 삶과 같다

(3) 천국적이고 영적인 사랑이 있는 사람은 천국에 들어간다. 그러나 천국적, 영적 사랑 없이 육신적, 세상적 사랑만 있는 사람은 지옥에 간다. The man who has heavenly and spiritual love goes to heaven; while the man who has corporeal and worldly love and no heavenly and spiritual love goes to hell.

이것은 내가 본 모든 천국에 간 사람이나 지옥에 간 사람들에게서 확인된 바이다. 천국에 간 사람들의 삶은 천국적이고 영적인 사랑에서 나온 것이었고, 지옥에 간 사람들의 삶은 육신적 세상적 사랑에서 나온 것이었다. 천국적 사랑은 선하고, 정직하고, 공정한 것을 그것이 선하고, 정직하고, 공정하기 때문에 사랑하는 것이고, 그 사랑에서 그렇게 행하는 것을 말한다. 그것을 사랑하는 사람은 선하고, 정직하고, 공정한 삶을 살며, 바로 그것이 천국의 삶이다. 선하고, 정직하고, 공정한 것을 그 자체를 목적으로 사랑하는 사람과 그것을 행하는 사람, 즉 그렇게 사는 사람은 그 무엇보다 주님을 가장 사랑한다. 선함과 정직함과 공정함은 주님께로부터 오는 것이기 때문이다. 그들은 또한 이웃을 사랑한다. 선과 정직과 공정이 바로 우리가 사랑해야 할 이웃이기 때문이다.주271 반면 육신적 사랑은 선하고, 정직하고, 공정한 것을 그 자체를 위해서가 아니라 자기를 위해서 사랑하는 것을 말한다. 그렇게 해서 평판과 명예와 이득이 생길 수 있기 때문이다. 그런 사람들은 선함과 정직함과 공정함 속에서 주님과 이웃을 바라보는 것이 아니라 자기와 세상을 바라보는 것이다. 이런 기만에서 나오는 선함과 정직과 공정은 악함과 부정직과 불공정일 뿐이며, 그들이 선하고 정직하고 공정함을 실천할 때도 실제로는 악과 부정직과 불공정을 사랑하는 것이다. This has been made evident to me from all whom I have seen taken up into heaven or cast into hell. The life of those taken up into heaven had been derived from a heavenly and spiritual love, while the life of those cast into hell had been derived from a corporeal and worldly love. Heavenly love consists in loving what is good, honest, and just, because it is good, honest, and just, and in doing this from love; and those that have this love have a life of goodness, honesty, and justice, which is the heavenly life. Those that love what is good, honest, and just, for its own sake, and who do this or live it, love the Lord above all things, because this is from him; they also love the neighbor, because this is the neighbor who is to be loved.271 But corporeal love is loving what is good, honest, and just, not for its own sake but for the sake of self, because reputation, honor, and gain can thus be acquired. Such, in what is good, honest, and just, do not look to the Lord and to the neighbor, but to self and the world, and find delight in fraud; and the goodness, honesty, and justice that spring forth from fraud are evil, dishonesty, and injustice, and these are what are loved by such in their practice of goodness, honesty, and justice.

 

[2] 모든 사람의 삶이 이렇게 다른 종류의 여러 사랑에 의해 결정되므로 사람은 죽어서 중간 영계에 들어가는 즉시 검토되어 그 본질이 드러나고, 유사한 사랑 안에 있는 사람들과 연결된다. 천국적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 천국에 있는 사람들과 연결되고, 육신적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 지옥 사람들과 연결된다. 그 후 그들이 첫째와 둘째 단계를 지나면 각 사람은 마음에 해당하는 그의 내면에 있어서나 얼굴, 몸, 말에 해당하는 그의 외면에 있어서나 그 자신의 사랑이 되기 때문에 따로 떨어져 서로 볼 수도, 알 수도 없게 된다. 모두가 그 외모까지도 자기의 사랑의 형상이 되기 때문이다. 육신적 사랑인 사람들은 추잡하고, 어둡고, 검고, 흉한 모습이다. 반면 천국적 사랑인 사람들은 생기있고, 밝고, 사랑스럽고, 아름다운 모습이다. 그들의 마음과 사고에 있어서도 완전히 서로 다르다. 천국적 사랑인 사람들은 명석하고 지혜로우나 육신적 사랑인 사람들은 우둔하고 어리석다. As the life of everyone is determined by these different kinds of love, as soon as men after death enter the world of spirits they are examined to discover their quality, and are joined to those that are in a like love; those that are in heavenly love to those that are in heaven, and those that are in corporeal love to those that are in hell; and after they have passed through the first and second state they are so separated as to no longer see or know each other; for each one becomes his own love, both in respect to his interiors pertaining to his mind, and in respect to his exteriors pertaining to his face, body, and speech; for everyone becomes an image of his own love, even in externals. Those that are corporeal loves appear gross, dusky, black and misshapen; while those that are heavenly loves appear fresh, bright, fair and beautiful. Also in their minds and thoughts they are wholly unlike, those that are heavenly loves being intelligent and wise, while those that are corporeal loves are stupid and as it were silly.

 

[3] 천국적 사랑 안에 거하는 사람의 생각과 애정의 내면과 외면을 볼 수 있게 허락되면, 그 내면은 빛이나 불꽃의 광채처럼 보이고, 외면은 무지개처럼 여러 가지 아름다운 색으로 나타난다. 그러나 육신적 사랑 안에 빠져 있는 사람의 내면은 닫혀버렸기 때문에 검게 나타난다. 또 속마음이 악의적인 속임수로 가득한 사람의 내면은 불투명한 불처럼 보인다. 그들의 외면은 더러운 색깔로 나타나고 눈에 거슬린다. (영계에서는 주께서 허락하시면 마음과 성정의 내면과 외면이 가시적으로 나타난다.) When it is granted to behold the interiors and exteriors of thought and affection of those that are in heavenly love, their interiors appear like light, and some like a flamy light, while their exteriors appear in various beautiful colors like rainbows. But the interiors of those that are in corporeal love appear as if black, because they are closed up; and the interiors of some who were interiorly in malignant deceit appear like a dusky fire. But their exteriors appear of a dirty color, and disagreeable to the sight. (The interiors and exteriors of the mind and disposition are made visible in the spiritual world whenever the Lord pleases.)

 

[4] 육신적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 천국의 빛으로는 아무 것도 볼 수 없다. 그들에게는 천국 빛은 짙은 어둠으로, 석탄 불빛 같은 지옥 빛은 환한 빛으로 보인다. 더욱이 천국 빛 안에서는 그들의 내적 시각이 매우 어두워지기 때문에 그들은 정신이상이 된다. 그래서 그들은 천국 빛을 피해 구덩이나 동굴에 숨는다. 그들의 악에서 나온 허위가 많을수록 더 깊이 숨는다. 반면에 천국적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 천국 빛 안으로 더 내적으로 더 깊이 들어갈수록 모든 것이 더 뚜렷하고, 아름답게 보이며, 진리를 더 명석하고, 지혜롭게 지각하게 된다. Those that are in corporeal love see nothing in the light of heaven; to them the light of heaven is thick darkness; but the light of hell, which is like light from burning coals, is to them as clear light. Moreover, in the light of heaven their inward sight is so darkened that they become insane; consequently they shun that light and hide themselves in dens and caverns, more or less deeply in accordance with the falsities in them derived from their evils. On the other hand those who are in heavenly love, the more interiorly and deeply they enter into the light of heaven, see all things more clearly and all things appear more beautiful to them, and they perceive truths more intelligently and wisely.

 

[5] 육신적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 천국의 열 속에서도 전혀 살 수 없다. 천국의 열은 천국적 사랑이기 때문이다. 그들은 지옥의 열기 속에서는 살 수 있다. 지옥 열기는 자기를 좋아하지 않는 사람들을 잔인하게 대하는 사랑이다. 그 사랑이 즐기는 것은 남을 경멸함과 적대감, 증오, 복수 등이다. 그런 사람들은 이런 즐거움을 맛볼 때, 자기 삶을 찾았다고 느낀다. 그들은 선한 동기에서 선 자체를 목적으로 남에게 선을 행한다는 것이 무엇인지 알지 못하고, 오직 악한 동기에서 악을 목적으로 선을 행하는 것밖에 모른다. Again, it is impossible for those who are in corporeal love to live at all in the heat of heaven, for the heat of heaven is heavenly love; but they can live in the heat of hell, which is the love of raging against others that do not favor them. The delights of that love are contempt of others, enmity, hatred, and revenge; and when they are in these delights they are in their life, and have no idea what it is to do good to others from good itself and for the sake of good itself, knowing only what it is to do good from evil and for the sake of evil.

 

[6] 육신적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 천국에서는 숨을 쉴 수도 없다. 악한 영을 천국에 데려다 놓으면, 마치 고통스러운 듯 힘들게 숨을 쉰다. 천국적 사랑 안에 있는 사람들은 천국에 더 내적으로 들어갈수록 더 자유롭게 숨 쉬고, 더 풍성한 삶을 산다. 이상의 모든 내용으로 보면, 사람에게 있는 천국이란, 천국적이고 영적인 사랑이라는 것을 알 수 있을 것이다. 그 사랑 안에 천국의 모든 것이 새겨져 있기 때문이다. 또한 사람에게 지옥이란, 천국적이고 영적인 사랑을 떠난, 육신적이고 세상적인 사랑이며, 그 사랑에 지옥의 모든 것이 새겨져 있음도 알 수 있을 것이다. 그렇다면, 그 사랑이 천적이고 영적인 사람은 천국에 들어가고, 그 사랑이 천국적이고 영적이지 않고, 육신적이고 세상적이기만 한 사람은 지옥에 들어간다는 것이 분명해진다. Those who are in corporeal love are unable to breathe in heaven. When any evil spirit is brought into heaven he draws his breath like one struggling in a contest; while those that are in heavenly love have a freer respiration and a fuller life the more interiorly they are in heaven. All this shows that heaven with man is heavenly and spiritual love, because on that love all things of heaven are inscribed; also that hell in man is corporeal and worldly love apart from heavenly and spiritual love, because on such loves all things of hell are inscribed. Evidently, then, he whose love is heavenly and spiritual enters heaven, and he whose love is corporeal and worldly apart from heavenly and spiritual love enters hell.

 

 

주271. 가장 높은 뜻으로, 주님은 이웃이시다. 주님은 모든 것보다 더 높이 사랑받으셔야 하기 때문이다. 그러나 주님을 사랑하는 것은 주님으로 말미암는 것을 사랑하는 것이다. 주님 자신, 주님으로 말미암는 모든 것 가운데 계시기 때문이며, 그러므로 그것은 선하며 참된 것을 사랑하는 것이다 (AC.2425, 3419, 6706, 6711, 6819, 6823, 8123). In the highest sense, the Lord is the neighbor, because he is to be loved above all things; but loving the Lord is loving what is from him, because he himself is in every thing that is from Him, thus it is loving what is good and true (n. 2425, 3419, 6706, 6711, 6819, 6823, 8123). 주님으로부터 나오는 선함과 참됨을 사랑하는 것은 선과 진리를 따라 사는 것이요, 이것이 곧 주님을 사랑하는 것이다 (AC.10143, 10153, 10310, 10336, 10578, 10645). Loving what is good and true which is from the Lord is living in accordance with good and truth, and this is loving the Lord (n. 10143, 10153, 10310, 10336, 10578, 10645). 모든 사람과 사회, 또한 한 나라와 교회, 그리고 보편적 의미로 주님의 나라, 이 모든 것이 이웃이다. 그리고 이들에게 저마다의 상태에 따라 선을 사랑하는 마음으로 선을 행하는 것이 이웃을 사랑하는 것이다. 즉 잘 살펴보아야 할 저마다의 선이 곧 이웃이다 (AC.6818–6824, 8123). Every man and every society, also one’s country and the church, and in a universal sense the Lord’s kingdom, are the neighbor, and doing good to these from a love of good in accord with their state is loving the neighbor; that is, their good that should be consulted is the neighbor (n. 6818–6824, 8123). 도덕적 선 또한, 이는 정직하고, 시민사회적 선, 이는 공정한데, 이들도 이웃이다. 정직과 공정을 사랑해서 정직하고 공정하게 행하는 것이 이웃을 사랑하는 것이다 (AC.2915, 4730, 8120–8123). Moral good also, which is honesty, and civil good, which is justice, are the neighbor; and to act honestly and justly from the love of honesty and justice is loving the neighbor (n. 2915, 4730, 8120–8123). 그래서 이웃을 향한 체어리티는 사람의 생애 전반에까지 확장되며, 이웃을 사랑하는 것은 생애 전반 모든 역할과 일을 함에 있어 마음을 다해 선하고 공정하게 행하며, 정직하게 행하는 것이다 (AC.2417, 8121, 8124). Thus charity toward the neighbor extends to all things of the life of man, and loving the neighbor is doing what is good and just, and acting honestly from the heart, in every function and in every work (n. 2417, 8121, 8124). 고대 교회의 교리는 체어리티의 교리였으며, 그들은 그로부터 지혜를 얻었다 (AC.2385, 2417, 3419, 3420, 4844, 6628). The doctrine in the ancient church was the doctrine of charity, and from that they had wisdom (n. 2385, 2417, 3419, 3420, 4844, 6628).
