천국의 기쁨과 행복

육신 생활에서 권력을 장악했고, 저세상에 가서도 지배욕이 여전한 사람이 있었다. 그는 이런 말을 들었다. ‘그대는 이제 다른 나라에 와 있다. 이곳은 영원한 나라이고, 지상에서의 그대의 지배는 끝났으며, 그대는 이제 누구나 그의 선과 진리만큼만, 그리고 그의 세상 생활 여하에 따라 받는 주의 자비만큼만 존중받는 곳에 와 있다. 사람이 그 부유함과 왕에게 받는 총애에 따라 존중되는 것은 지상에서나 이 나라에서나 마찬가지다. 다만 여기서는 선과 진리가 재산이고, 땅 위에서의 생활 여하에 따라 받는 주의 자비가 왕의 총애다. 이와 다른 방법으로 지배하려는 자는 다른 나라에 속해 있는 것이므로 누구나 반역자가 된다.’ 이 말을 듣고 그는 부끄러워했다. There was one who in the life of the body had exercised power over others, and who had retained in the other life the desire to rule; but he was told that he was now in another kingdom, which is eternal, and that his rule on earth had perished, and that he was now where no one is esteemed except in accordance with his goodness and truth, and that measure of the Lord’s mercy which he enjoyed by virtue of his life in the world; also that the same is true in this kingdom as on the earth, where men are esteemed for their wealth and for their favor with the prince, wealth here being good and truth, and favor with the prince the mercy bestowed on man by the Lord in accordance with his life in the world. Any wish to rule otherwise would make him a rebel, since he is in another’s kingdom. On hearing these things he was ashamed.
