천사들이 천국에서 하는 일

The Occupations of Angels in Heaven

천국에서 교회 일을 맡아보는 사람들은 세상에 있을 때 말씀을 사랑하고, 거기서 진리를 열심히 추구했으며, 명예나 이득을 목적으로 그렇게 한 것이 아니라 자기와 이웃의 삶에 실천하기 위해서 그렇게 한 사람들이다. 그들은 실천을 원하고 사랑한 정도만큼 천국에서 깨달음과 지혜의 빛을 받는다. 그들이 받는 이 지혜의 빛은 천국의 말씀에서 나온다. 천국의 말씀은 지상의 말씀 같은 자연적 말씀이 아니라 영적인 말씀이다(259항 참조). 이들은 설교자 직분을 수행하는데, 신적 질서에 따라 지위가 높은 사람들은 다른 이들보다 깨달음에서 오는 지혜가 뛰어나다. Those are concerned with ecclesiastical affairs in heaven who in the world loved the Word and eagerly sought in it for truths, not with honor or gain as an end, but uses of life both for themselves and for others. These in heaven are in enlightenment and in the light of wisdom in the measure of their love and desire for use; and this light of wisdom they receive from the Word in heaven, which is not a natural Word, as it is in the world, but a spiritual Word (see above, n. 259). These minister in the preaching office; and in accordance with Divine order those are in higher positions who from enlightenment excel others in wisdom.

 

[2] 사회의 일을 맡아보는 사람은 세상에서 조국을 사랑했고, 자기의 유익보다 전체의 유익을 더 사랑했으며, 공정하고 올바른 것을 사랑해서 공정하고 올바르게 행한 사람들이다. 이들이 정의의 법칙을 사랑하여 열심히 그것을 연구하고, 그에 따라 지성적이 된 정도만큼 그들은 천국에서도 그 일을 할 능력이 있다. 그들은 각자의 지성에 맞는 지위 또는 수준에서 그 일을 수행한다. 그들의 지성의 정도는 전체의 유익을 위해 쓰임새를 사랑하는 정도와 같다. Those are concerned with civil affairs who in the world loved their country, and loved its general good more than their own, and did what is just and right from a love for what is just and right. So far as these from the eagerness of love have investigated the laws of justice and have thereby become intelligent, they have the ability to perform such functions in heaven, and they perform these in that position or degree that accords with their intelligence, their intelligence being in equal degree with their love of use for the general good.

 

[3] 더욱이 천국에는 무수한 역할과 분야와 일이 있다. 이 세상의 직업은 그에 비하면 거의 없는 셈이다. 그러나 천국에서 일하는 사람이 아무리 많아도 그들은 모두 쓰임새에 대한 사랑에서 기쁘게 일하고 수고한다. 아무도 자기 자신이나 이익에 대한 사랑으로 일하지 않는다. 또한 생활에 필요한 모든 것이 무상으로 주어지므로 그들은 생계 때문에 이익을 추구하는 일이 전혀 없다. 그들은 집과 옷과 음식을 모두 거저 받는다. 그러므로 분명한 것은 이 세상에서 그런 것들을 쓰임새보다 더 사랑하는 사람은 천국에 그의 몫이 전혀 없다는 점이다. 사람의 사랑, 즉 애정은 이 세상 삶이 끝난 뒤에도 그대로 남아 있으며, 영원히 뿌리뽑히지 않기 때문이다(563항 참조). Furthermore, there are in heaven more functions and services and occupations than can be enumerated; while in the world there are few in comparison. But however many there may be that are so employed, they are all in the delight of their work and labor from a love of use, and no one from a love of self or of gain; and as all the necessaries of life are furnished them gratuitously they have no love of gain for the sake of a living. They are housed gratuitously, clothed gratuitously, and fed gratuitously. Evidently, then, those that have loved themselves and the world more than use have no lot in heaven; for his love or affection remains with everyone after his life in the world, and is not extirpated to eternity (see above, n. 563).
