천국 안의 할 일은 셀 수 없이 많고, 각 공동체의 역할에 따라 다르기 때문에 다 열거할 수 없다. 구체적으로 설명하기는 더욱 불가능하다. 그러나 일반적인 면에서 어느 정도 설명할 수는 있겠다. 각 공동체가 선에 따라 구분되고, 따라서 쓰임새에 따라 구분되므로 각 공동체에는 고유한 역할이 있다. 천국의 모든 선은 행동하는 선, 즉 쓰임새이기 때문이다. 천국의 모두는 자기 쓰임새를 다한다. 주의 나라는 쓰임새의 나라이기 때문이다.주249 It is impossible to enumerate the occupations in the heavens, still less to describe them in detail, but something may be said about them in a general way; for they are numberless, and vary in accordance with the functions of the societies. Each society has its peculiar function, for as societies are distinct in accordance with goods (see above, n. 41), so they are distinct in accordance with uses, because with all in the heavens goods are goods in act, which are uses. Everyone there performs a use, for the Lord’s kingdom is a kingdom of uses.249

Performing uses is serving the Lord (n. 7038). 저세상에서는 모두 쓰임새를 수행해야 한다(AC.1103). 심지어 사악하고 지옥스러운 자들조차도, 비록 방식은 다르지만(AC.696) In the other life all must perform uses (n. 1103); even the wicked and infernal, but in what manner (n. 696). 모두는 저마다 자기가 수행하는 쓰임새들인 그런 존재다 (AC.4054, 6815). 예를 들면(AC.7038) All are such as are the uses they perform (n. 4054, 6815); illustrated (n. 7038). 천사들의 복은 체어리티의 선, 곧 쓰임새를 수행하는 것으로 되어 있다(AC.454). Angelic blessedness consists in the goods of charity, that is, in performing uses (n. 454).
