천국의 부유한 사람과 가난한 사람

The Rich and the Poor in Heaven

사람이 신을 인정하고, 이웃을 선의로 대하기만 한다면, 겉으로 세상 사람들과 똑같이 살아도 되고, 부자가 될 수도 있으며, 형편과 역할에 따라 풍성한 식탁과 우아한 집과 좋은 옷을 갖추고 살 수도 있고, 즐거움과 만족을 누려도 되며, 직무와 사업을 위해, 그리고 정신생활과 육신 생활을 위해 세상일에 종사할 수 있다는 사실은 다음과 같은 분명한 결론을 낳는다. 즉 천국에 가는 것은 흔히 생각하는 것처럼 그렇게 어렵지 않다는 사실이다. 유일한 어려움은 자기 사랑과 세상 사랑에 저항하고, 그 두 사랑이 지배적이 되지 않도록 하는 데 있다. 그 두 사랑이 모든 악의 근원이기 때문이다.주234 다음의 주의 말씀은 이것이 생각처럼 그렇게 어렵지 않다는 것을 의미한다. Since a man can live outwardly as others do, can grow rich, keep a plentiful table, dwell in an elegant house and wear fine clothing according to his condition and function, can enjoy delights and gratifications, and engage in worldly affairs for the sake of his occupation and business and for the life both of the mind and body, provided he inwardly acknowledges the Divine and wishes well to the neighbor, it is evident that to enter upon the way to heaven is not so difficult as many believe. The sole difficulty lies in being able to resist the love of self and the world, and to prevent their becoming dominant; for this is the source of all evils.234 That this is not so difficult as is believed is meant by these words of the Lord:

 

29나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고 내게 배우라 그리하면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리니 30이는 내 멍에는 쉽고 내 짐은 가벼움이라 하시니라 (마11:29, 30) Learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest to your souls; for my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matt. 11:29, 30).

 

주의 멍에는 쉽고 주의 짐은 가볍다고 하신 이유는 사람이 자기 사랑과 세상 사랑에서 비롯되는 악에 저항하는 정도만큼 자기 자신이 아니라 주의 인도를 따르는 것이며, 그렇게 되면 주께서 그 사람 안에 있는 악을 물리치고 제거하시기 때문이다. The Lord’s yoke is easy and his burden light because a man is led by the Lord and not by self just to the extent that he resists the evils that flow forth from love of self and of the world; and because the Lord then resists these evils in man and removes them.

These are contempt of others, enmities, hatred, revenge, cruelty, deceit (n. 6667, 7370–7374, 9348, 10038, 10742). 그런 사랑들 가운데 인간은 태어나며, 그래서 인간의 유전한 악이 그 안에 있는 것이다 (AC.694, 4317, 5660). Into such loves man is born, thus in them are his inherited evils (n. 694, 4317, 5660).
