천국 천사들의 능력

The Power of the Angels of Heaven

그러나 영계에서의 천사들의 능력은 너무도 커서 그에 대해 내가 목격한 것을 모두 얘기한다면 믿기 어려울 것이다. 영계에서 신적 질서에 어긋나 제거해야 하는 어떤 장애물이든지 천사들은 단지 한 번의 의도함과 응시함으로 쫓아내거나 전복한다. 나는 악인들이 점령한 산들이 그렇게 내던져지고 파괴되는 것과, 때로는 지진이 난 듯 끝에서 끝까지 흔들리는 것을 보았으며, 암벽이 밑바닥까지 갈라져 그 위에 있던 악인들을 삼키는 것도 보았다. 또 나는 천사들이 수십만의 악한 영들을 흩어 지옥으로 내던져지는 것도 보았다. 아무리 숫자가 많아도 악한 영들은 천사를 당할 수 없고, 술책과 교활함과 무리지음도 허사가 된다. 천사들은 그 모든 것을 꿰뚫어 보고 즉시 쫓아버리기 때문이다. (이에 대해서는 바빌론의 멸망을 다룬 책에서 자세히 다루었다.) 영계에서 천사들은 이와 같은 능력이 있다. 성서를 보면 천사들은 허락되었을 때는 자연계에서도 이런 힘을 나타낸 것을 알 수 있다. 군대 전체를 쳐부수거나 전염병을 내려 칠만 명을 멸했다고 한 구절 등이 그 예다. But so great is the power of angels in the spiritual world that if I should make known all that I have witnessed in regard to it, it would exceed belief. Any obstruction there that ought to be removed because it is contrary to Divine order the angels cast down or overthrow merely by an effort of the will and a look. Thus I have seen mountains that were occupied by the evil cast down and overthrown, and sometimes shaken from end to end as in earthquakes; also rocks cleft asunder to their bottoms, and the evil who were upon them swallowed up. I have seen also hundreds of thousands of evil spirits dispersed by angels and cast down into hell. Numbers are of no avail against them; neither are devices, cunning, or combinations; for they see through them all, and disperse them in a moment. (But more may be seen on this subject in the account of the destruction of Babylon.) Such power do angels have in the spiritual world. It is evident from the Word that they have like power in the natural world also when it is permitted; for instance, that they have given to destruction entire armies; and that they brought on a pestilence from which seventy thousand men died. Of this angel it is said:

 

16천사가 예루살렘을 향하여 그의 손을 들어 멸하려 하더니 여호와께서 이 재앙 내리심을 뉘우치사 백성을 멸하는 천사에게 이르시되 족하다 이제는 네 손을 거두라 하시니 여호와의 사자가 여부스 사람 아라우나의 타작 마당 곁에 있는지라 17다윗이 백성을 치는 천사를 보고 곧 여호와께 아뢰어 이르되 나는 범죄하였고 악을 행하였거니와 이 양 무리는 무엇을 행하였나이까 청하건대 주의 손으로 나와 내 아버지의 집을 치소서 하니라 (삼하24:16, 17) The angel stretched out his hand against Jerusalem to destroy it but Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough, now stay thy hand. And David saw the angel that smote the people (2 Sam. 24:16, 17).

 

이 외에 다른 구절들도 있다. 천사들에게 이런 능력이 있기 때문에, 그들은 ‘능력’이라고 불린다. Besides other passages. Because the angels have such power they are called powers; as in David:

 

능력이 있어 여호와의 말씀을 행하며 그의 말씀의 소리를 듣는 여호와의 천사들이여 여호와를 송축하라 (시103:20) Bless Jehovah, ye angels, mighty in power (Ps. 103:20).
