천국의 예배

내가 예배 장소에서의 그들 모임에 대해 배울 수 있도록 때로 예배에 출석해 설교를 듣는 것이 허락되었다. 설교자는 동쪽의 강단에 선다. 다른 사람들보다 지혜의 빛이 뛰어난 사람들은 설교자 정면 앞에 앉는다. 빛이 덜한 사람들은 그들의 좌우에 앉는다. 좌석은 둥글게 배치되어 있는데, 설교자가 모두를 볼 수 있고, 아무도 그의 시야 바깥에 앉지 않게 되어 있다. 들어오는 문은 건물의 동쪽, 강단의 왼쪽에 있는데, 처음 온 사람들이 입구에 서 있는다. 아무도 강단 뒤에 서 있을 수 없다. 누가 뒤에 서 있으면 설교자에게 혼란이 일어난다. 회중 가운데 누가 의견을 달리해도 마찬가지다. 따라서 동의하지 않는 사람은 반드시 얼굴을 돌려야 한다. 그곳 설교의 지혜로움은 지상의 설교와 결코 비교할 수 없이 뛰어나다. 천국에 있는 사람들은 내적 빛 안에 있기 때문이다. 영적 나라의 교회 건물은 돌로, 천적 나라의 교회 건물은 나무로 지은듯이 보인다. 그 이유는 돌은 진리에 상응하며, 영적 나라 사람들은 진리 안에 있기 때문이고, 나무는 선에 상응하고, 천적 나라 사람들은 선 안에 있기 때문이다.주162 천적 나라에서는 거룩한 장소를 교회라 부르지 않고, 하나님의 집이라고 부른다. 천적 나라의 예배 장소는 장엄하지 않으나 영적 나라의 교회는 대체로 장엄한 편이다. That I might learn about their meeting in places of worship, I have been permitted at times to attend and to hear the preaching. The preacher stands in a pulpit at the east. Those who are in the light of wisdom more than others sit in front of him; those who are in less light sit to the right and left of these. There is a circular arrangement of the seats, so that all are in the preacher’s view, no one so sitting at either side as to be out of his view. At the entrance, which is at the east of the building and on the left of the pulpit, those stand who are being initiated. No one is permitted to stand behind the pulpit; when there is anyone there the preacher becomes confused. It is the same if anyone in the congregation dissents; and for this reason the dissenter must needs turn away his face. The wisdom of the preachings is such as to be above all comparison with the preachings of this world, for those in the heavens are in interior light. The church edifices in the spiritual kingdom are apparently built of stone, and those in the celestial kingdom of wood; because stone corresponds to truth, and those who are in the spiritual kingdom are in truth, while wood corresponds to good, and those in the celestial kingdom are in good.162 In that kingdom the sacred edifices are not called churches but houses of God. In that kingdom they are without magnificence; but in the spiritual kingdom they are more or less magnificent.

For this reason the most ancient people, who were in celestial good, had sacred buildings of wood (n. 3720).
