※  천사들에게는 이 세상 사람들에게 있는 시간적 개념이 전혀 없기 때문에, 그들은 시간과 그에 속한 것들이 무엇인지 모른다. 그들은 년, 월, 일, 시, 오늘, 내일, 어제 등과 같은 시간에 관한 용어들의 의미조차 알지 못한다. 천사들은 사람들이 이런 용어들을 쓰는 것을 들을 때(천사들은 주님에 의해 언제나 사람과 연합되어 있다), 그 말 대신 상태와 그 속성들을 지각한다. 이렇게 하여 사람의 자연적 생각은 천사들에게 있어서는 영적 생각으로 바뀌게 된다.

천사들에게는 이 세상 사람들에게 있는 시간적 개념이 전혀 없기 때문에, 그들은 시간과 그에 속한 것들이 무엇인지 모른다. 그들은 년, 월, 일, 시, 오늘, 내일, 어제 등과 같은 시간에 관한 용어들의 의미조차 알지 못한다. 천사들은 사람들이 이런 용어들을 쓰는 것을 들을 때(천사들은 주님에 의해 언제나 사람과 연합되어 있다), 그 말 대신 상태와 그 속성들을 지각한다. 이렇게 하여 사람의 자연적 생각은 천사들에게 있어서는 영적 생각으로 바뀌게 된다. 그렇기 때문에 성경말씀에 나오는 ‘시간’은 여러 상태를 의미하는 것이다. 또 위에 나열한 여러 가지 시간적 용어들도 그에 상응하는 영적인 것을 의미한다.주124 As angels have no idea derived from time, such as men in the world have, so neither do they have any idea about time and what pertains to it. They do not even know what is meant by the terms of time, such as year, month, week, day, hour, today, tomorrow, yesterday. When angels hear these terms used by man (for angels are always associated with man by the Lord) in place of them they perceive state and what pertains to states. Thus the natural thought of man is turned into spiritual thought with angels. This is why times in the Word signify states, and the terms of time, as enumerated above, signify corresponding spiritual things.124
