천국의 네 방위

The Four Quarters in Heaven

이렇게 주님을 향해 방향을 돌리는 것은 천국의 신기한 일 중 하나다. 거기서는 한 곳에 많은 이들이 있어 제각기 다른 방향으로 얼굴과 몸을 돌린다 해도 모두 자기 눈앞에 주님을 보고, 각기 남쪽은 자기 오른편에, 북쪽은 왼편에, 서쪽은 뒤에 둔다. 또 하나 신기한 것은, 비록 천사들이 언제나 동쪽을 바라보지만, 동시에 나머지 세 방향도 일견(一見, a look)한다는 사실이다. 그러나 이 세 방향에 대한 일견은 그들의 사고에 속한 것인 내적 시각(interior sight)으로 되는 것이다. 신기한 사실을 하나 더 말하자면, 천국에서는 남의 뒤에 서서 그 뒷머리를 바라보는 것이 절대로 허용되지 않는다. 그것이 주님으로부터 상대방에게 유입되는 선과 진리의 흐름을 방해하기 때문이다. This turning to the Lord is among the wonderful things in heaven. There may be many together in one place, some turning the face and body one way and some another, and yet all see the Lord before them, and everyone has the south at his right, the north at his left, and the west behind him. Another wonderful thing is that, although the angels look only to the east they have also a look toward the other three quarters; but the look to these is from their interior sight, which pertains to their thought. And it is yet another wonderful thing that in heaven no one is ever permitted to stand behind another and look at the back of his head, for this would disturb the influx of good and truth from the Lord.
