※  천국의 빛은 신적 진리이므로, 또한 신적 지혜와 지성이기도 하다. 그러므로 천국의 빛 안으로 올려진다는 말은, 천국의 지혜와 지성에로 고양(高揚)되고, 밝히 깨닫게 된다는 말과 같다. 그렇기 때문에 천사들은 정확히 그들이 가진 지혜와 지성의 정도만큼 빛 안에 있다.

천국의 빛은 신적 진리이므로, 또한 신적 지혜와 지성이기도 하다. 그러므로 천국의 빛 안으로 올려진다는 말은, 천국의 지혜와 지성에로 고양(高揚)되고, 밝히 깨닫게 된다는 말과 같다. 그렇기 때문에 천사들은 정확히 그들이 가진 지혜와 지성의 정도만큼 빛 안에 있다. 천국의 빛이 신적 지혜이기 때문에, 그 빛에는 모든 사람의 속성(character)이 드러난다. 모든 이의 내면(interiors)이 있는 그대로 그들의 얼굴에 나타나 극히 작은 것도 숨겨지는 것이 없다. 보다 내적인 천사들은 자기들에 관한 것이 모조리 공개되는 것을 좋아하는데, 그것은 그들의 의도가 전부 선한 것밖에 없기 때문이다. 이와 달리, 천국 아래 있는 이들은 그 의도가 선하지 않기 때문에, 천국의 빛이 비추는 것을 크게 두려워한다. 놀라운 것은, 지옥에 있는 영들은 서로에게는 사람으로 보이지만, 천국의 빛에는 각자의 악의 형상대로 얼굴과 몸이 흉한 괴물로 보인다는 사실이다.주102 사람도 천사들이 볼 때, 그 영혼의 모습이 그렇게 보인다. 그 사람이 선하면, 그 선의 특성에 따라 아름다운 사람 모습이고, 악하면 그 악의 특성에 따라 흉한 괴물로 보인다. 이로써 천국의 빛에는 모든 것이 밝히 드러난다(are made manifest)는 것과, 그 이유는 천국의 빛이 신적 진리이기 때문이라는 것을 확실히 알 수 있다. As the light of heaven is Divine truth, that light is also Divine wisdom and intelligence; therefore to be raised up into the light of heaven means the same as to be raised up into intelligence and wisdom and enlightened. For this reason the angels have light in just the same degree as they have intelligence and wisdom. Because the light of heaven is Divine wisdom, in that light the character of everyone is recognized. The interiors of everyone lie open to view in his face just as they are, with not the least thing hidden. And interior angels love to have all things that pertain to them lying open, since they will nothing but good. It is otherwise with those beneath heaven, who do not will what is good, and for that reason fear greatly to be seen in the light of heaven. And wonderful to tell, while those in hell appear to one another as men, in the light of heaven they appear as monsters, with a horrid face and body, the exact form of their own evil.102 In respect to his spirit man appears, when seen by angels, in a like way; if good as a man, beautiful in accord with his good; if evil as a monster, ugly in accord with his evil. From this it is clear that in the light of heaven all things are made manifest, and for the reason that the light of heaven is Divine truth.

 

 

주102. 지옥에 있는 사람들은 타는 석탄 빛 같은, 저들 고유의 빛에 따라 자기들끼리는 사람으로 보인다. 그러나 천국 빛이 비치면, 그들은 괴물로 보인다. Those in the hells, in their own light, which is like the light from burning coals, appear to themselves as men; but in the light of heaven they appear as monsters (n. 4531, 4533, 4674, 5057, 5058, 6605, 6626).
