사후 사람은 생전 살았던 삶과 같다

사람이 죽은 뒤 그를 기다리고 있는 것은 그의 주된 사랑이다. 이 사랑은 영원토록 결코 바뀌지 않는다. 각 사람은 많은 것을 사랑한다. 그러나 그 많은 사랑에 일관되는 주된 사랑이 있다. 즉 그 많은 사랑이 주된 사랑과 하나가 된다거나 모두 합해서 주된 사랑을 이루고 있다고 할 수 있다. 사람은 의지 속에 들어 있는 것 중에 이 주된 사랑과 조화되는 것은 전부 사랑하기 때문에 그것을 사랑이라고 부른다. 사랑에는 내적인 것과 외적인 것, 직접적인 것과 간접적인 것, 더 가까운 것과 더 먼 것 등 다양한 종속적 사랑이 있다. 이 모두는 전체가 합하여 일종의 나라를 구성한다. 그것이 사람 안에 이렇게 조직되어 있지만, 사람은 그 조직을 의식하지 못한다. 그러나 저 세상에 가면, 어느 정도 그 자신이 알게 된다. 거기서는 그의 생각과 애정이 그의 사랑들이 구성된 것에 따라서 달리 확장되기 때문이다. 즉 그의 주된 사랑이 천국적 사랑으로 구성되었으면 그의 생각과 애정은 천국 공동체들로 뻗어가고, 그의 주된 사랑이 지옥적 사랑으로 구성되어 있으면 지옥 공동체들로 뻗어가기 때문이다. 영들과 천사들의 모든 생각과 애정이 공동체들 안으로 뻗어간다는 것은 앞에 나와 있다. 천국 천사들의 지혜를 다룬 장과 천국의 교류와 교통을 결정하는 천국 형태를 다룬 장이다. It is man’s ruling love that awaits him after death, and this is in no way changed to eternity. Everyone has many loves; but they are all related to his ruling love, and make one with it or together compose it. All things of the will that are in harmony with the ruling love are called loves, because they are loved. These loves are both inner and outer; some directly connected and some mediately; some nearer and some more remote; they are subservient in various ways. Taken together they constitute a kingdom, as it were, such being the order in which they are arranged in man, although man knows nothing whatever about that arrangement. And yet something of it is made manifest to him in the other life, for the spread of his thought and affection there is in accordance with the arrangement of his loves, his thought and affection extending into heavenly societies when the ruling love is made up of the loves of heaven, but into infernal societies when it is made up of the loves of hell. That all the thought and affection of spirits and of angels has extension into societies may be seen above, in the chapters on the wisdom of the angels of heaven, and on the form of heaven which determines affiliations and communications there.
