사람은 사후에도 완전한 사람의 형태로 있다

앞의 여러 장을 통해서 사람의 영의 모습은 사람 모습이라는 것, 즉 영은 그 형태에 있어서까지 사람이라는 것을 말한 바 있다. 특히 모든 천사는 완전한 사람 모습임(73–77항)과, 사람은 그 내면에 있어서 누구나 한 영이라는 것(432–444항), 그리고 천국의 천사들은 사람 출신이라는 것(311–317)항을 다룬 곳에서 자세히 설명했다. It has already been shown in several previous chapters that the form of the spirit of man is the human form, that is, that the spirit is a man even in form, especially where it is shown that every angel has a complete human form (n. 73–77); that in respect to his interiors every man is a spirit (n. 432–444); and that the angels in heaven are from the human race (n. 311–317).

 

[2] 이것을 더 명백하게 밝혀 주는 사실이 있다. 사람이 사람인 것은 그의 몸 때문이 아니라 영 때문이라는 것과, 육체의 형태는 영의 형태에 따라 영에 더해진 것이지, 그 반대가 아니라는 점이다. 영이 영의 형태에 맞는 몸을 입고 있는 것이다. 따라서 사람의 영은 가장 미세한 입자에 이르기까지 몸 각 부분 안에서 움직이므로, 만일 몸의 어느 부분이 영에 의해 움직여지지 않으면, 즉 영이 그 속에서 작용하지 않으면, 그 부분은 살 수 없다. 이 사실은 다음 한 가지만 보아도 누구나 알 수 있다. 사고 기능과 의지 기능은 몸 안의 것을 낱낱이 조종하는데, 그 통제가 완벽하기 때문에, 모든 것을 일치시키며, 일치하지 않는 것은 몸의 일부가 아니고, 생명 없는 것으로 간주되어 떨어져 나가게 한다. 이 사고와 의지는 사람의 몸에 속한 것이 아니라 영에 속해 있는 것이다. This can be seen still more clearly from the fact that it is by virtue of his spirit, and not by virtue of his body that man is a man, and that the bodily form is added to the spirit in accordance with the spirit’s form, and not the reverse, for it is in accordance with its own form that the spirit is clothed with a body. Consequently the spirit of man acts into every part of the body, even the minutest, insomuch that if any part is not actuated by the spirit, or the spirit is not active in it, it does not live. Anyone can see that this is true from this fact alone, that thought and will actuate all things and each thing of the body with such entire command that everything concurs, and anything that does not concur is not a part of the body, but is cast out as something without life; and thought and will belong, not to the body, but to the spirit of man.

 

[3] 사람은 육체를 떠난 영이나 다른 사람 안에 있는 영이 사람 모습인 것을 볼 수 없다. 몸의 시각 기관인 눈은 이 세상 물질로 되어있고, 물질적인 것은 물질적인 것만 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 영적인 것이 영적인 것을 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 물질적인 눈이 가려져 영과 공조하지 않게 되면, 영의 모습을 그대로, 즉 영이 사람 모습인 것을 볼 수 있게 된다. 단지 영계에 있는 영들뿐 아니라, 다른 사람 몸 안의 영도 볼 수 있다. A spirit that has been loosed from the body or the spirit in another man, is not visible in the human form to man, because the body’s organ of sight, or its eye, so far as it sees in the world, is a material organ, and what is material can see only what is material, while what is spiritual sees what is spiritual. When, therefore, the material part of the eye becomes darkened and is deprived of its cooperation with the spiritual, the eye sees spirits in their own form, which is the human form, not only the spirits that are in the spiritual world, but also the spirit of another man while it is yet in its body.
