지옥 불이라는 건 무엇이고, 이를 간다는 건 무엇인가

What Hell Fire Is and What the Gnashing of Teeth Is

한편, 이를 가는 것은 허위끼리 서로 끊임없이 충돌하고 싸우는 것이다. 즉 허위 안에 있는 사람들이 남을 경멸하고, 원수 대하듯 하고, 조롱하고, 비웃고, 모독하면서 끊임없이 다투고 싸우는 것을 말한다. 이런 모든 악은 폭발하여 온갖 가혹행위를 일으키기까지 한다. 모두가 자신의 허위를 옹호해 싸우고, 그것을 진리라 하기 때문이다. 이 충돌과 싸움은 지옥 밖에서 들으면 이를 가는 소리 같다. 또 천국에서 그들에게 진리가 들어가도 이를 가는 소리로 바뀐다. Gnashing of teeth is the continual contention and combat of falsities with each other, consequently of those who are in falsities, joined with contempt of others, with enmity, mockery, ridicule, blaspheming; and these evils burst forth into lacerations of various kinds; since everyone fights for his own falsity and calls it truth. These contentions and combats are heard outside of these hells like the gnashings of teeth; and are also turned into gnashings of teeth when truths from heaven flow in among them.

 

신성을 거부하고 자연을 인정한 모든 사람이 이런 지옥에 있다. 이런 지옥들 중 더 깊은 지옥에는 그런 거부가 확고부동한 사람들이 있다. 그들은 천국에서 오는 어떤 빛도 받지 못하며, 또 그들 자신 안에 있는 어떤 것도 내적으로 볼 수 없으므로, 그들 대부분이 육신적이고 감각적인 영들이다. 즉 눈으로 보고 손으로 만지는 것이 아니면 아무 것도 믿지 못하는 영들이다. In these hells are all who have acknowledged nature and have denied the Divine. In the deeper of these hells are those that have confirmed themselves in such denials. As such are unable to receive anything of light from heaven, and are thus unable to see anything inwardly in themselves, they are for the most part corporeal sensual spirits, who believe nothing except what they see with their eyes and touch with their hands.

 

그러므로 모든 감각적 오류가 그들에게는 진리가 된다. 그들은 그 오류로 논쟁을 하는 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 그들의 말다툼이 이를 가는 소리로 들린다. 왜냐하면 영계에서는 모든 허위는 거슬리는 소리를 내며, 이는 자연계의 가장 외적인 것과 사람의 가장 외적인 것, 즉 몸의 감각에 상응하기 때문이다.주290 지옥에서 이를 간다는 것은 마8:12; 13:42, 50; 22:13; 24:51; 25:30; 눅13:28에 나온다. Therefore all the fallacies of the senses are truths to them; and it is from these that they dispute. This is why their contentions are heard as gnashings of teeth; for in the spiritual world all falsities give a grating sound, and the teeth correspond to the outmost things in nature and to the outmost things in man, which are corporeal sensual.290 (That there is gnashing of teeth in the hells may be seen in Matt. 8:12; 13:42, 50; 22:13; 24:51; 25:30; Luke 13:28.)

 

그 나라의 본 자손들은 바깥 어두운 데 쫓겨나 거기서 울며 이를 갈게 되리라 (마8:12)

 

42풀무 불에 던져 넣으리니 거기서 울며 이를 갈게 되리라, 50풀무 불에 던져 넣으리니 거기서 울며 이를 갈리라 (마13:42, 50)

 

임금이 사환들에게 말하되 그 손발을 묶어 바깥 어두운 데에 내던지라 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갈게 되리라 하니라 (마22:13)

 

엄히 때리고 외식하는 자가 받는 벌에 처하리니 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갈리라 (마24:51)

 

이 무익한 종을 바깥 어두운 데로 내쫓으라 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갈리라 하니라 (마25:30)

 

너희가 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 모든 선지자는 하나님 나라에 있고 오직 너희는 밖에 쫓겨난 것을 볼 때에 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갈리라 (눅13:28)

 

 

주290. 이(the teeth)의 상응 (AC.5565–5568). The correspondence of the teeth (n. 5565–5568). 완전히 감각적이기만 하고, 영적인 빛은 조금도 못 받는 사람들이 이(the teeth)에 상응한다 (AC.5565). Those who are purely sensual and have scarcely anything of spiritual light correspond to the teeth (n. 5565). 말씀에서 ‘이’(a tooth)는 감각적인 걸 의미하는데, 이는 사람의 가장 바깥, 가장 외적인 걸 말한다 (AC.9052, 9062). In the Word a “tooth” signifies the sensual, which is the outmost of the life of man (n. 9052, 9062). 저세상에서 이를 가는 건 자연이 모든 것이고, 신성은 아무 것도 아니라 믿는 자들한테서 볼 수 있다 (AC.5568). Gnashing of teeth in the other life comes from those who believe that nature is everything, and the Divine nothing (n. 5568).
