호흡과 심장 고동은 영과 가장 내적으로 교통한다. 영의 생각은 호흡과 교통하고, 사랑에서 비롯되는 것인 애정은 심장과 교통한다.주257 따라서 몸에서 그 두 움직임이 멈추면 즉시 영과 몸은 분리된다. 폐의 호흡과 심장의 박동이라는 이 두 움직임은 본질적인 연결 고리이기 때문에, 그것이 끊어지면 영은 영 자체가 되고, 몸은 영의 생명이 떠났으므로 싸늘해지고 부패하기 시작한다. 사람의 영이 호흡과 심장에 가장 내적으로 연결되어 있는 것은, 모든 생명 활동이 전체적으로 뿐만 아니라 각 세세한 것까지 그 두 움직임에 달려 있기 때문이다.주258 There is an inmost communication of the spirit with the breathing and with the beating of the heart, the spirit’s thought communicating with the breathing, and its affection, which is of love, with the heart,257 consequently when these two motions cease in the body there is at once a separation. These two motions, the respiration of the lungs and the beating of heart, are the very bond on the sundering of which the spirit is left to itself; and the body being then deprived of the life of its spirit grows cold and begins to decay. This inmost communication of the spirit of man is with the respiration and with the heart, because on these all vital motions depend, not only in general but in every particular.258

 

 

주257. 심장은 의지와 상응하며, 그렇게 해서 사랑에 속한 애정에 상응한다. 반면 폐의 호흡은 이해에 상응하며, 그렇게 해서 생각, 사고에 상응한다(AC.3888). The heart corresponds to the will, thus to the affection which belongs to the love, while the respiration of the lungs corresponds to the understanding, thus to the thought (n. 3888). 이렇게 해서 말씀에 나오는 ‘심장’은 의지와 사랑을 의미한다 (AC.7542, 9050, 10336). From this the “heart” in the Word signifies the will and love (n. 7542, 9050, 10336). ‘혼’은 이해, 신앙 및 진리를 의미하며, 그래서 ‘혼으로부터, 심장으로부터’는 이해, 신앙 및 진리로 말미암는 것, 그리고 의지, 사랑 및 선으로 말미암는 걸 의미한다 (AC.2930, 9050). The “soul” signifies understanding, faith, and truth; therefore “from the soul and from the heart” signifies what is from the understanding, faith, and truth, and what is from the will, love, and good (n. 2930, 9050). 가장 큰 사람, 즉 천국과, 사람의 심장, 폐하고의 상응 (AC.3883–3895) The correspondence of the heart and lungs with the Greatest Man, or heaven (n. 3883–3895).
